The Happy Ever After Playlist is an absolute joy to read. The characters, Sloan and Jason, are loveable and deeply relatable. Their flirty banter and effortless chemistry is both natural and heartfelt. Conversations between the two of them strike a lovely balance between playful and vulnerable. All of this makes their connection feel earned rather than rushed.
What stands out most is the personal journey Sloan goes on. I enjoyed reading as Sloan moves from a grief-stricken, depressed widow to someone who reclaims her life, voice, and sense of joy. These sections are beautifully written and emotionally grounded. The healing process is not neat or linear, which makes the story it feel honest and real. The story is as a gentle but powerful reminder that there is still so much life after extreme tragedy, even when hope feels distant.
One fun note. I almost chose not to read this book, initially thinking the dog would take center stage, especially as a non-dog lover (gasp!). Tucker works as a charming side character who adds warmth without overshadowing the story.
As always, Abby Jimenez’s writing is warm, witty, and emotionally resonant. The balance of humor and heartbreak feels natural rather than heavy-handed, making this an enjoyable fast read with lasting emotional impact. A tender romance that doesn’t shy away from pain while still believing in happiness on the other side. This heartfelt, hopeful story stayed with me long after I finished.
