It’s that time of the year, where summer is just around the corner. The sun is shining strongly already, mosquitoes and bees are out, the water and splash pads are calling our names, and the kids are itching to be out of school. Yes, friends, summer is almost upon us. Are you ready with your essential oils and non-toxic options for a safe and awesome summer?
Today, I want to just focus on some of my favorite ideas and recipes for Enjoying the Outdoors. I’ll continue the rest of this series in a later post…..so stay tuned!
Up first…..Sun-Kissed Skin! If you are anything like me, it is so easy to get caught up in the fiasco of fun and you came home with sun-kissed skin. So how do you maintain healthy skin after a day out in the sun? Lavaderm contains Lavender essential oil and Aloe to nourish and protect sun-stressed skin. It feels ah-may-zing and cooling on the skin and ever so soothing after a long day outside.
Do you worry about your kiddos playing outside, especially around dusk, and all the outdoor annoyances that can so quickly and easily bother your kiddos? I started a hunt to find something to put on my kid’s skin, but have you ever looked at a bottle of your bug spray?! Most contain DEET! Here are some signs and symptoms from just a brief exposure to DEET according to the National Pesticide Information Center:
When products containing DEET get into the eyes, they may cause irritation, pain and watery eyes. People that have left DEET products on their skin for extended periods of time have experienced irritation, redness, a rash, and swelling. People that have swallowed products containing DEET have experienced stomach upset, vomiting, and nausea. Very rarely, exposure to DEET has been associated with seizures in people.
Needless to say, This summer do NOT put that stuff on your family!
Here is a recipe that is completely natural, safe, and effective for your family.
I also wrote about the DIY recipe we love in our family for outdoor annoyances here.
One of my favorite essential oils to use during the summer months is Peppermint Essential Oil. Peppermint (Mentha piperita) is one of the oldest and most highly regarded herbs for supporting normal digestion. Peppermint Vitality oil can be used for normal bathroom and digestive functions, including promoting healthy intestinal function and gastrointestinal system comfort. This summer stay cool with Peppermint and get some great health benefits, too!
A few other essential oils that are important to carry with you this summer are Digize Essential Oil Blend and Lemon Essential Oil. Lemon (Citrus limon) essential oil includes the naturally occurring constituent limonene and is cold pressed from the rind of Citrus limon, a 20-foot tree with highly scented blossoms and lemon fruits. Lemon essential oil promotes clarity of thought and purpose and has a purifying citrus scent that is invigorating, enhancing, and warming and is known as one of the most fragrant essential oils. Lemon Vitality essential oil may be used to enhance the flavor of foods and is a great oil option to cleanse and support the normal detoxification process in our bodies. You can find some great uses for Lemon here. Meanwhile, DiGize is excellent for supporting the digestive system. DiGize is a blend of 8 supportive essential oils formulated to aid in proper digestive function (Ginger, Anise, Fennel, Peppermint, Tarragon, Lemongrass, Patchouli, and Juniper).
And now for some very real practical help…..How many of us live in sandals and flip-flops during the summer. (Ok full disclosure, I live in them year round, so I need to rephrase :P) Are your feet Flip-Flop ready?! 🙂 Avoid the salon, and have beautiful, healthy feet and toes naturally!
I know this post has been a whirlwind of bountiful ideas already, so I’ll continue on with more tips and tricks in a later post, so stay tuned and make sure you are following the blog for updates!
