My Favorite Outdoor Annoyance Spray

As I jumped into the world of essential oils, one of the first things I learned was that whatever is put on your skin (shampoo, lip gloss, lotion, bug spray, etc.) is absorbed by your very porous skin and absorbed in to your bloodstream within seconds.
One thing I started looking into was some of the outdoor annoyance sprays that were premade. As I started reading through some of the various ingredients I was really concerned.

So….. this summer I was NOT going to put that stuff on my babies!

I wanted something completely natural, safe, and effective for my family.

Using just these two essential oils (Purification and Peppermint), a little epsom salt and a 2oz glass bottle I made my own outdoor annoyance spray.

Annoyance Spray

So let’s first talk about natural – if you are new to essential oils, Young Living is the only company with a seed-to-seal promise that the oils have been farmed from land that is beyond organic and are not cut with any synthetics.  Which brings me to safety – I am so thankful that I can trust that my essential oils are safe enough to apply to my skin!

But the question many of you might be wondering – is it effective?!

Here’s the ingredients in the blend Purification in case you can’t quite read the picture too well: Citronella, Rosemary, Lemongrass, Melaleuca (“Tea Tree”), Lavindin and Myrtle essential oils.  It smells wonderful! This is a great essential oil to diffuse in a room to end a foul odor (e.g. smelly teenage boys, smoke, cat litter box, etc.)

So you can see how Purificaiton would be effective.

If you are like me, you may be thinking and wondering is this more affordable than the store kind.

With a membership to Young Living a 15ml of Purification is $18.75 and Peppermint is $21.50.  A 15ml bottles have on average 275-300 drops. For the sake of math, I’ll use 275 to estimate the cost. 5 drops of purification costs 34 cents and 5 drops of peppermint costs 39 cents. My beautiful blue 2oz bottle I found on Abundant Health here for $1.10. I already had the Epsom Salts on hand from Amazon.com, but Amazon figured that 1 oz of epsom salts costs 18 cents of which I did not use a full ounce.  So my total for 2 oz was less then two dollars!!

At long last, here’s the easiest Annoyance Spray recipe ever!!

Ingredients:

  • 4 oz distilled water
  • 5 drops of Purification essential oil
  • 5 drops of Peppermint essential oil
  • 1 teaspoon of epsom salt

Directions:
1. In your glass bottle put the teaspoon of espom salts into it.
2. Add your essential oils on top of the salt to soak up the oils.
3. Fill with distilled water and shake.
4. Apply as needed. 🙂

I carry mine everywhere I go. I even made a smaller one using a one ounce bottle. This size easily fits in my pocket.  Whether I am at an outdoor lawn concerts or having fun with my my kids while we play outside after dinner; we spray on my favorite outdoor annoyance spray. I can happily tell you that we remain annoyance free all summer!

I would love to hear from you if you make your own Annoyance Spray or if you try out mine!
