Moments

I am definitely living in the moments.  Most days I'm just trying to keep my clan alive, which is harder than it sounds actually.  But moments.  The moments that make me laugh from deep inside because oh-my-stars the things littles say and do; to the moments I want to tear my hair out of my head and need to put myself in time-out because oh-my-stars the things littles say and do. :) Case in point. One moment these kids are having the greatest day of their life enjoying rides at a kiddie park. So much joy, so much laughter. But moments later when I needed her to sit on the other side of the stroller so I could put the baby where she had chosen to sit. Complete attitude.  This girl already knows how to dish it out at two. I…

My Favorite Outdoor Annoyance Spray

As I jumped into the world of essential oils, one of the first things I learned was that whatever is put on your skin (shampoo, lip gloss, lotion, bug spray, etc.) is absorbed by your very porous skin and absorbed in to your bloodstream within seconds. One thing I started looking into was some of the outdoor annoyance sprays that were premade. As I started reading through some of the various ingredients I was really concerned. So..... this summer I was NOT going to put that stuff on my babies! I wanted something completely natural, safe, and effective for my family. Using just these two essential oils (Purification and Peppermint), a little epsom salt and a 2oz glass bottle I made my own outdoor annoyance spray.   So let's first talk about natural - if you are new to essential oils,…

A Trip to Mayo Clinic

Mayo Clinic. I could write a novel about this place.  The emotions, the medical care, the effect on my family, and the weather.  As you can see below, we went during a crazy time of snow storms and winter weather! Although, I have been managing my pain with essential oils, we were still seeing symptoms and wanted to make sure that the local doctors were not missing a "zebra disease" (a rare, unusual disease that a local doc might not be familiar with or have seen any cases of yet).  So, we packed up our family (2 under 2.5) and headed to the opposite end of the country.  The boys went on a road trip, to drive up the many things it takes to travel with babies, while the girls flew (see picture below).  As I started to write, I wanted…

Deep Relief {Post # 5 – Using Essential Oils}

It's been a while since I posted, and much has been going on - including a trip to the Mayo Clinic (that will be another post for a different day). But, I have to tell you that this Deep Relief Roll-On has been saving my life.  Literally.About a year ago, I was in crazy, debilitating pain.  I was weeks away from birthing my second baby, and was on self-imposed bed rest.  Walking was essentially an impossibility.  Fast forward post-birth, and my body continued to deteriorate all summer.  The pain was intense, unforgiving and required dramatic changes in my quality of life.  De-stressing and more sleep have been critical to having more success with my body. Then, this past fall I discovered Deep Relief.   Here's all the good stuff in it:   It is so easy to use.  Locate an area,…

Easy DIY Deodorant

Is your deodorant toxic? Do you have any idea how many crazy ingredients are hiding in your deodorant? So scary! To think I was put that on my body, and allowing it to be absorbed into my body. If you don't believe me, check out this link between antiperspirants and cancer which talks about aluminum in the antiperspirants. Equally scary, I came across this sheet regarding propylene glycol and reproduction toxicity. I also want my products to be phthalates-free, and while the powers that be claim that it is unknown how it is impacting health, check out this fairly well-documented article that indicates a link between breast cancer and phtalates. I don't know about you, but I don't want any of these ingredients in something as simple and basic and daily as my deodorant. If this is your deodorant, please know there is a safe, easy, affordable DIY Deodorant…

How to Use Essential Oils

Let's talk about how to use Essential Oils.  Essential Oils can be used in three primary ways. If you will remember from my previous post in this series, I am only talking about Young Living essential oils, which are 100% pure essential oils.  You cannot expect to get the quality or to get the same results if the essential oil is not Young Living.  Please do not use other brands of essential oils the same way you would use Young Living oils. Essential oils can be inhaled, applied topically or used in cooking, drinking, flavoring with the new Vitality Line. First, essential oils can be used via Direct Inhalation.  The human sense of smell is about ten thousand times more powerful than other senses.  When you inhale an essential oil its scent travels first through olfactory nerve cells inside the nose…

Choosing an Essential Oil Company

There are so many companies that are marketing essential oils.  How did I go about choosing an essential oil company? In fact, over the years I have used essential oils from a variety of places without much success.  Now, I understand why. Most stores and companies actually sell adulterated oils. (An adulterated oil means that the essential oil is not pure, because it is mixed with synthetic oils and/or alcohol which destroys the therapeutic properties of the essential oil.)  Adulterated oils are created cheaply, which is why you can buy them for such a cheap price. (You pay for what you get! ;)) These oils, while they may smell good, generally have no therapeutic efficacy and can even be harmful. I choose to use Young Living essential oil, exclusively. Here are the the top reasons I love Young Living essential oils.…

40 Books in 2013

I finished the year 12 books short of the goal I set.  40 books in 2013! This year I transitioned from a mom of a baby (he was 15 months as I started the year in Jan) to a mom with a baby and a toddler (a 2 year old and a 9 month as the year ended in Dec).  I had to create a challenge to myself to come up with my list of what I wanted to read. Reading Challenge: A best seller A YA best seller A book about a historical event A book about mommyhood A book about babies A book about toddlers A funny book by a comedian A classic A book that was made into a movie A book to learn a new skill A book about a book of the Bible A book about Christian living…

Frankincense Essential Oil

Frankincense Essential Oil is one of my must have oils that I use every day!  For many years, I used to read the word Frankincense in the Bible and have no tangible understanding of what this was or why in the world someone would bring it as a gift to another, especially to baby Jesus.  "....And when they had opened their treasures they presented unto Him gifts; gold, and Frankincense and myrrh." (Matthew 2:10).. It's so amazing to read about Frankincense is extracted from the Boswellia tree and the tree must be 40 years old before even one drop of oil can be extracted.  In Biblical times 40 years was considered to be a generation.     This is such a versatile oil, I can see why historically it was more valuable then gold.  Here are just some of the ways…
